About the Watch

In 1971, Tudor released its second series of chronographs, referred to as the 7100 series. Building upon the success of the first series, known as the "Homeplate", Tudor continued to employ a bold and colorful aesthetic that had become a signature of the brand. In addition to their vibrant color schemes, the watches featured larger cases for the time, measuring 40mm, compared to the 36mm Rolex Daytona, making it the bolder and more robust option. This collection is often recognized by collectors as the original "Monte Carlo" watches, as their dials bore a resemblance to the roulette tables found in the casinos of Monte Carlo. While the Homeplate watches are sometimes also referred to as Monte Carlos, this is not entirely accurate, and the nickname should be reserved for the 7100 series specifically.

About the Brand

Montres TUDOR SA is a Swiss manufacturer of luxury wristwatches based in Geneva. Registered in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex SA, the brand remains a sister company to Rolex, both companies being owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation. Over time Tudor became especially well known for its tool watches, producing watches for professional divers and the military. Between the 1960s and 1980s several navies issued Tudor Submariners to their divers, including the US Navy SEALs, and the French Marine Nationale (French Navy).
